Emma writes a blog about her life’s journey and this is an extract from her blog about the day she came to enjoy an empowering Madison Bou Photoshoot.

Our clients are everything to us. Without referrals and repeat business we wouldn’t have made it through the last 20 years of taking pictures. This is our lifeblood. Any marketeer will tell you that it’s far more expensive to advertise for brand new clients than it is to market to the clients you already have. “I used to be confident and carefree. I never worried what anyone thought and I was comfortable in my own skin. I've never been beautiful but I have felt it.

CHOOSE YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER CAREFULLY

No one wants to live with regret, and when it comes to choosing a boudoir photographer, it’s a bit trickier than most of our normal, daily decisions.

There’s so much information out there and a lot of amateur photographers advertising some great deals. (Like photoshoots for a tenner!)

It’s hard to know where to start and not get sucked into a seductive offer and end up regretting it later. Remember, you’ll be visiting a stranger and you’ll likely be standing in front of that stranger either completely naked or partially naked. Not something you want to do lightly. You’ll need to keep your wits about you and not just jump into this with no consideration or research beforehand.

A Mum and Daughter Shoot Experience…

This style of photoshoot is really close to my heart. My Mum died a few years ago and I spent hours looking through family pictures.

Eventually, I found three good ones of Mum and none of her with the whole family. We had literally hundreds of pictures, on film, slides and prints, yet we had none of the pictures that really mattered. I realised then that it was too late.

•••One day, your kids will look for photos of you and what will they find?•••

“Thank you for the amazing experience I had on my photo shoot. From start to finish the whole day was full of fun and laughter and even before I had even had my make up done they made me feel at ease. They both made me feel confident enough to do the shots I wanted to and even looking back at the photos from the start of the day to the end Dave had already taught me so much on how to get the best shots for me and have lots of variety in my poses. He gave plenty of advise and direction which was the main thing I worried about as I'm not a natural selfie taker or poser by any means! I can't recommend it enough. Have you ever had one of those days where you say to your partner “Wow, have you been working out, your stomach looks so flat” and they say “What this beer belly?” and then they say “Your hair looks so good” and you say “you kidding, I haven’t washed it in three days”

and the conversation continues where each of you is trying to prove that you are the less attractive one because it’s easier and it feels harder to big yourself up.

What we see happen though, is that when a client comes in for a session and has hair and makeup done and then sees a few shots on the back of the camera, it takes away that negative voice. It’s no longer “I’m not skinny enough” or “I’m not pretty enough” – For the first time in forever, you start to see yourself as your friends see you or as your partner sees you and to be able to show that to you is, for us, one of the most incredible things.

Jane’s glamorous boudoir stye photoshoot to mark her retirement

Jane and her husband John made the trip to Madison Bou from Derby and stayed at Hazlewood Castle overnight. John wanted to treat her to an amazing present for her 64th birthday and whenever we have clients staying overnight we do everything we can to ensure that the images are ready for viewing by check-out time the following morning.
