Confidence is key to getting great Boudoir Pictures!

That’s all very well, but how do you show confidence when you turn up feeling as nervous as can be. After all, it’s not everyday you take your clothes off for the camera.

The answer is ‘Fake it, till you make it’ and we can help with this.

Firstly, remember this.

It takes a lot of courage to book a Boudoir Photoshoot in the first place. Congratulate yourself on this. A Boudoir Photoshoot is like investing in your feeling of self worth and it with reward you tenfold.

A recent conversation with a fifty year old client struck a chord with us. She had just jumped out of a plane and achieved her lifelong ambition of parachute jumping. It was a tremendous boost to her confidence, being able to overcome her fears. Sometimes, having the courage to step well outside our comfort zones can reap huge rewards.

Booking a Boudoir photoshoot is a little like this. (Less dangerous, obviously, but for many, equally scary)

Trust in your Photographer

If you have picked your photographer, it is safe to assume that you like their photographic style because every photographer is different To stay confident you need to remind yourself why you picked them in the first place. You’ve checked that they’ve been around for a while and know what they’re doing. You’ve read the reviews from previous clients. You’ve checked them out in much the same way that you would check out a Tinder date before a first meet. (Please say you would do this, right?)

Having trust in your photographer will really help you to become more confident. After all, If you don’t trust your photographer, are you sure you are doing the right thing?

We will never judge you

We have been photographing women for 20 years and in that time we’ve seen it all… super shy women who take a long time to relax and we have photographed exhibitionists who we’ve tried desperately to cover up for fear of upsetting the hotel guests. We have photographed women suffering final stages of cancer who want to create a legacy for their husband or loved one and we have photographed women with scars and lost limbs. Countless women have come to us with issues about their own bodies. They feel they’re too curvy or not curvy enough. Trust us when we say, it’s rare, very rare, that a client comes into our studio with no body issues at all. In our experience body dysmorphia is more common than ever before and affects 8 out 10 of our clients. If you generally don’t like the way you look then your part of those 8 out of 10 women. Our job is to make you feel beautiful by creating beautiful pictures of you. We do that because we never judge you. We genuinely believe you ARE beautiful and we have the skillset to show you.

To stay confident, don’t look at yourself

We are the harshest judge of ourselves and have the tendency to compare ourselves to others. (Those ‘others’ tend to be the highly paid, heavily photoshopped super models in magazines…. Oddly though, we rarely beat ourselves up for not having the brain of Professor Stephen Hawking )

The women we see in you is more beautiful than the one you see. Let us show you the women you truly are.

As an aside… I spent 25 years on radio. It took me 10 years before I could listen back to myself and not grimace. Have you ever heard your own voice and thought “that’s not me. It’s not what I sound like” ? It’s because we hear ourselves from inside our head.

Same thing is true of the way we see ourselves. All our lives we grow up looking in mirrors and looking at bad selfies. Our internal image of ourselves is different to what the world sees. We’ll show you your real beauty.

Have fun. Really, it’s not brain surgery.

Please don’t take yourself too seriously. We do not have a scalpel in our hands, but a camera. The more fun you have, the more confident you will look on camera. Clients tell us time and time again that a boudoir photoshoot with Madison Bou is one of the most fun things they’ve ever done.
